Job title and employer
Strategic Accounts Manager | DRiV ™ (Formerly Tenneco)
Where did you attend school?
I attended Georgian College, Automotive Business School of Canada (formally Canadian Automotive Institute) graduating with honours in 2007. I later completed my Bachelor of Business Administration, graduating from Northwood University in 2017.
Did you know you wanted to work in the automotive aftermarket?
I held three internships while attending the Automotive Business School of Canada at a General Motors dealer in Toronto. I worked as a Service Advisor and Assistant New Vehicle Sales Manager in my time there. Towards the end of my final internship placement, I began to explore all my options. I was fortunate enough to meet Dean Clarke of Tenneco who visited Georgian and was looking to fill a vacant Area Sales Manager role in North/Central Ontario. Evaluating my options at that time, it was a great fit, and allowed me a fresh opportunity with what seemed endless possibilities at the age of 22.
What advice would you give someone who is just starting out or is looking to transition into the industry?
Be prepared to put in the time and dedication to your work. You are going to need to work evenings, some weekends, long hours and many nights away. If you want an 8:00am– 5:00pm cubicle job, this is not for you. You are not going to get rich overnight or immediately find yourself in some comfortable management position. You best be confident, but not over confident. Be willing to take risks and jump at the opportunities to take a leadership role, or any presentation role. Being a self-starter and taking chances will most likely be noticed by your company leaders.
